FLAERTIANA International Documentary Film Festival takes place in Perm, Russia in September 2008.

On September 5-11, Perm will be hosting the 8th International Documentary Film Festival.

The thought-provoking 7-day film event established in 1995 is dedicated to the celebration and cultivation of the documentary film. The eclectic programming is designed to extend appreciation of the art of documentary film and its unique power to inspire and communicate a world of ideas and cultures.

FLAERTIANA presents an array of extraordinary programs, showcasing the work of brilliant filmmakers and providing a venue for established and emerging artists of film as well as doc film buffs to see the most interesting international and Russian picks. Every year FLAERTIANA welcomes film-makers and film-lovers to enjoy a strong film selection, to take part in panel-discussions and seminars, and to share ideas on modern documentary in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.

In 2008, the Festival presents 80 films from 26 countries of America, Europe and Asia. All competition films are shown at October Movie Theater (address: Perm, Komsomolskiy prospect, 46). A number of sneak previews are screened at Triumph Movie Theater (address: Perm, ulitsa Lenina, 44).

FLAERTIANA Documentary Film Festival opens on Friday, September 6, 7 p.m. (Triumph). The Festival program starts on September 6, and includes three competition categories: Grand-Prix (award: $10 000), Best Documentary Feature ($3 000) and Best Documentary Short (award: $3 000). One more film will get FIPRESSI Award ($3 000). The Viewers Choice Award ($1 000) will go to one of the Russian competitors. In each category, the International Jury will choose a winner during the festival week. Winners will be announced at the closing ceremony on Wednesday, September 10, 7 p.m. (Triumph).

  • Russian Flaertiana program (starts Sept. 5, Premier)

  • Seminar "Identity Laboratory" - Sept. 10, 2 p.m. (Premier)

The Festival enjoys support from the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography and by the Perm City Committee of Culture, whose generosity provides the foundation that made the event possible.
