“Alice in Wonderland” illustrations exhibition opens at Perm State Art Gallery
Perm State Art Gallery invites Lewis Carroll’s fans to visit an exhibition of “Alice in Wonderland” illustrations. The exhibition includes drawings from Russian and English publications along with the lectures on how the character of Alice was created.
The story of a little girl Alice, written almost 150 years ago, stays one of the most published books in the world and still gets staged, filmed and discussed.
Art historian Olga Sinitsyna will give a lecture on the history of illustrating “Alice”. She will tell about drawings, made by Carroll himself and the most notable and interesting illustrations, made for Russian editions.
After the lecture you will be able to look through the book on the history of Russian translations and illustrations of “Alice”. More than 400 drawings made by 40 different artists were gathered in the book. Starting with the very first edition and going through 150 years till the most recent ones.
New editions of both “Alices” Russian translations, illustrated by Gennadiy Kalinovsky, and a small collection of his drawings will please the older generation and help young people to connect with the great writer’s art.
