Veterans in Perm and Perm Krai are awarded with commemorative medals for the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War
Anniversary celebrations are taking place in all districts of the city. Veterans are awarded with medals in the territorial bodies of self-government, public centres and at their homes. The total number of the medals to be awarded is more than 13, 6 thousand.
On February 26 Governor Viktor Basargin awarded the first medals to war veterans and home front workers.
- Everybody venerates the heroism, courage and bravery of Soviet soldiers and remembers those who worked on home front to hasten the victory. The farther the days of the Great Patriotic war are, the clearer we understand what great feat was performed, how strong the enemy was and how much we had to sacrifice in the name of victory, - said Viktor Basargin.
The celebrations are held in the administrative bodies of Perm city districts as well as public centres and territorial bodies of self-government. In “Raduga” Leisure Centre (Dzerzhinsky District) Dmitry Samoilov, Chief Executive of Perm City Administration, and Igor Subbotin, Head of Dzerzhinsky City District Administration, awarded 36 war veterans and home front workers with medals.
- Our city made a huge contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War. More than 100 thousand Permites went to the front. A third of the warcraft were equipped with the engines produced in Perm. A quarter of all guns were produced at the Lenin Plant (now “Motovilikha Plants”) while thirty percent of all fuses were produced at the Dzerzhinsky Plant. Perm became the destination for a lot of evacuated plants and factories and Perm railway workers received nearly 1400 war trains. Dozens of hospitals worked in our city during the war. After the country was liberated, you restored the economy, constructed plants and factories as well as palaces of culture, schools and kindergartens. We should remember about your feat forever, - said Dmitry Samoilov.
