Perm will soon get the Chinese peony pavilion
On August 6, 2018 the Mayor of Perm Dmitry Samoilov and the Chair of Perm City Council Yuri Utkin received the delegation from the city of Fuzhou (Jiangxi Province, China), led by the Vice-Mayor Mr Xu Guoyi.
Cooperation between Russia and China has been actively promoted by the leaders of both countries. The Perm Region has been successfully developing the links with Chinese regions under the framework of “Volga- Yangtze” , primarily with the province of Jianxi.
“ We will be pleased to make our own contribution to the development of strategic cooperation on the governmental level between the Russian Federation and China”, noted Dmitry Samoilov at the meeting.
The Mayor of Perm also briefed the guests on the current social and economic development of the city.
Later in the year the Perm Region will hold a large-scale event of “The Days of the Perm Region” in Jianxi province on September 26-27. The event will feature the “Swan Lake” performed by the Perm ballet group and an exhibition of Perm artists.
Mr Xu Guoyi stressed that he was honoured to become the guest of Perm City and as a sign of appreciation of successfully developing culture links between the two cities, expressed the readiness to donate a Chinese-style peony pavilion to Perm.
Gymnasium No 2 in Perm may become a possible location for the pavilion. According to Dmitry Samoilov, this school has become an unofficial center of Chinese culture and language in the Perm Region. This is the only school having a certified Confucius class. The pavilion may be a good companion to the existing sculpture of the embracing panda and the Russian bear, which symbolizes the friendly links between the two countries.
Should the Chinese partners find the location appropriate, the opening of the pavilion may become an event on the programme of “The Days of Jianxi Province in the Perm Region” next year.
