Perm City Archives open a new virtual international exhibition – “City and Water in photographs from the last century”

This is a joint project of archives and organizations of Perm and its twinned cities- Oxford (UK) and Louisville (USA). The exhibition is presented in both Russian and English.  

The exhibition is available at https://www.permarchive.ru/water/en/  and is devoted to water resources, rivers and canals vital for the cities’ life.   The photos show picturesque river landscapes, embankments, vessels and boats, various bridges and fountains; one can also see the scenes of leisure by the water, the beauty of rivers coated by ice or dramatic traces of high water.   The exhibition reveals the similarities and differences of each city’s attitude to water and water resources. Joint work of the archives in  another example of the new type of cooperation between the twin-cities. 

The idea of the exhibition was proposed by the colleagues form twin-cities following  a successful release of “Contribution to Victory”  international virtual exhibition in May 2020,  dedicated to 75th anniversary of the WW II Victory  https://www.permarchive.ru/75 .

“We continue to strengthen our twinned relationship and are prepared to present a new exhibition devoted to the issue of water resources and their use; this will be based on a collection of over 200 photos and 20 articles”, Perm City Archives noted. 

The exhibition is available in two languages – English and Russian and can be accessed from any device – smartphone, tablet or PC. 

The exhibition is a joint product of Perm City Archives and International Links Department of Perm City Administration, University of Louisville Archives and Special Collections (USA),  Oxfordshire History Centre and Oxford-Perm Association (UK).
