Perm City started the lights on its main New Year Tree

On the first day of winter the city lit up the lights on the main New Year Tree in the Esplanade as well as the ones put up in each city’s district. 

The ceremony of lighting up the New Year Tree was joined by schoolchildren who had performed with excellence in top-level events at international, intraregional and regional levels. The participants were addressed by Deputy Mayor of Perm Alexey Gribanov. 

— On December 1, which is the birth date of the Perm Krai, we follow the tradition and light up the New Year Trees in Perm, so the city is gradually getting its festive look. This year we are adding more of decorations in the streets to boost the atmosphere of Christmas and New Year for the residents,” noted Alexey Gribanov. 

 After a  short  performance  the lights were lit up on the tree marking the start of preparations for the coming holidays. .

The New Year Tree is 30 meters high, and the whole construction was specially designed: the symbol of the coming year  consists of 12 segments covered with artificial fir needles and this year it has a special  play light system.

Other symbolic New Year Trees are located in every district of the city – in front of the Culture Centers and in  parks and squares, and the lights on these were also switched on the same day.

The companies in the city traditionally put up light decorations on their  buildings adding  to the general festive atmosphere.

The city administration organizes its  annual competition for the best decorated company/building , with the winners  awarded with special prizes and diplomas on New Year’s Eve.
