Mayor of Perm Aleksey Demkin,  professional sportsmen, city administration representatives and Perm City councillors took part in an open workout at the Sprots grounds of the  Kama Embankment.

The workout participants gathered on the early morning of July 28 in the sports grounds at the Kama Embankment.  The  session  was led by Vladimir Epanov, chief referee of Perm Marathon, with a warmup followed by a running training.  As Mayor Demkin remarked, doing sports together is an excellent  way of uniting people through  a common aim.

– Each athlete  planning to take part in the marathon has an individual training plan; however, the city also offers free training activities for anyone  who would like to join.  Promoting a healthy lifestyle is extremely important.  We aim at  two important things: to organise a high-level competition for athletes so that they could set  new records, and to hold a large-scale sport festivities for the city residents and guests, promoting  sports and physical culture, said Aleksey Demkin.

The sports grounds at the Embankment is a place for everyday workouts and trainings attracting a large number of city residents.  Ekaterina Ivonina, Russia’s champion in athletics and record-holder for 2000 metre hurdles (the best 2022  world result), considers this fact to be the clear evidence of a high popularity of healthy lifestyle in Perm.

– We have a lot of coaches and specialists in amateur sports in Perms, and this is exciting.  Preparation for the Marathon needs at least 3 months, the shorter distances may take just a month, and the city offers all the opportunities for the trainings,  notes Ekaterins Ivonina.

The presentation of the Perm Marathon T-shirts for  the runners became the key event of the training session. This year the T-shirts will be of 4 colours – orange, red, light blue and violet; they were designed by The Orlyonok Sports Center and produced by a Perm-based company  «Maxxisport». Sergey Sapegin, the Chair of Perm Sports and Physical Culture Committee, commented on this year  medal concept for the marathon.

– The Grand Medal will be awarded for the runners in  10, 21 and  42 km distances,  the Small Medal – for  1, 3 and  5 km tracks.  It is worth noting that the marathon medal concept  is based on the authentic  calendar featuring  9 animals hunted by the ancient Komi people.  We are having the fifth marathon this year  and  the runners will get the medals with the image of a wolverine, explained Sergey Sapegin.

Up to date, “Perm Marathon” already has 7100 registered participants.  One can join the marathon and select the distance  through  the marathon website.
