Perm celebrates the Ecologist’s Day

On the eve of the holiday, various environmental events took place in the city - eco-festival “Nature of the city”, Saturday-picking and planting of seedlings in the city forests and on the streets of Perm

On June 5^th the  Russian ecologists  celebrate their  professional holiday. So, the ecofest “Nature of the city” was held in honor of the Ecologist  Day  on June 2 and 3 at the Perm Esplanade. As part of the two-day Ecofest program, the Perm residents were able to attend lectures and round tables, took part in actions, master classes, quests and competitions.

It should be noted that  Perm has  almost 38 thousand hectares of urban forests ,  more than 300 small rivers and 28 specially protected natural territories within the boundaries of the city. The city authorities, together with the public, preserve and develop the natural wealth of the city. In 2022, more than 17,000 trees and shrubs were planted in Perm as part of a landscaping campaign. “The Perm City Forest” organization  planted 25 thousand landscape cultures seedlings on the territory of urban forests. In addition,   more than 3 thousand tree seedlings have been planted  at the  municipal plant nursery, created this year on the basis of Urban Green Construction municipal company; in the future they will be planted in squares and parks of Perm, as well as along the street-road network.

Apart of that,  recreational facilities are being developed in the territory of the Perm city forests. In September, preparations for the improvement of the Chernyaevsky forest began within the «The Green Ring» project.  Three eco-parks and major repairs of the Yegoshikhinsky  Cultural and Memorial Park are planned in the Yegoshikha river valley. The project envisages ecological trails with comfortable descents and bridges, three visit-centers with lecture hall and children’s workshops, observation platforms, places for rest with approach to water. Similar objects within the «Green Ring» are planned in the valley of the Danilikha river. There will also be three parks – “The Kamenskikh Square”, “Park at the Central Market”, “The Silver Park”. Special attention is paid to the street, which will have to be the boundary between the natural and built-up area, as well as to perform important transport functions, developing walking and cycling in the city.

World Environment Day, or Ecologist’s Day, is celebrated in many countries. This holiday was established in 1972 to draw public attention to the need to preserve and improve the environment. The establishment and observance of the Ecologist Day in Russia underlines the importance of the professional activities of government  environmental institutions at all levels, non-governmental environmental organizations and all those who contribute to the preservation of nature and the environment.
