In the year of the 300th anniversary, our city became the venue of a status event for the Volga Federal District. The mayors of Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Ufa, as well as a number of other Volga region cities and federal officials attended the session both in person and via the Internet.

On October 6, our city served as an expert platform for the exchange of experience in municipal management in the Volga Federal District. Among the participants were the mayors of the country’s major municipalities, for example, from Samara, Ufa, Cheboksary, Izhevsk, as well as from other Volga region cities and towns,  some cities joined the session via the Internet.

The meeting was opened by Ilsur Metshin, Chairman of the Association of Volga Region Cities, Mayor of Kazan. He thanked the Mayor of Perm City Eduard Sosnin for this opportunity to hold the regular meeting of the Association in such a beautiful city.

The Mayor of Perm Eduard Sosnin also addressed the attendees with a welcoming speech. He noted that this year our city was celebrating its 300th anniversary, so it was crucial for the capital of the Perm region to receive such a representative delegation of mayors of the largest and most well-developed Volga region cities to show what has changed in the city for the anniversary.

– "We are glad to have the opportunity to share experience with our counterparts from the Association of Volga Region Cities, as well as to adopt new tools for strategic urban development of cities. Perm has a rewarding experience for other municipalities in economic management and governence in various areas including public transport renewal, parking policy, greening the city, municipal-private partnership, a high level of school education, and interesting cultural projects. Today, in the year of the 300th anniversary of Perm, all these developments are especially noticeable. We are pleased to share with our counterparts the results of the collaborative work of the regional and municipal authorities. Openness and cooperation motivate the municipal authorities to develop their territories, making them more convenient and modern for residents, that contribute to the prosperity of our entire country, " said Eduard Sosnin.

During the meeting, mayors of various municipalities were presented with a report on the activities of the Association for 2020-2023 and elected the governing bodies – the chair and his vice-chairs, the executive director and members of the audit commission. Thus, the Mayor of Ufa, Ratmir Mavliev became the new Chairman of the Association of Volga Region Cities.

– "It is a particular pleasure that my nomination took place in Perm. As we consider Perm to be a truly partner city. This interaction that we have established is what helps us to keep growing. My counterparts and I have witnessed a great transformation here. It was only last year when the city appeared to be a large construction site, but today we can estimate its smooth roads, renovated facades, illumination and greening. No doubt, we will adopt this experience in our preparation for the 450th anniversary of Ufa," said Ratmir Mavliev.

In addition, the members of the Association discussed current issues of strategic planning and socio-economic development of Volga region cities, as well as trends and issues of urban development under the sanctions of 'unfriendly states'. It also held an award ceremony for local government representatives on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Association.

During the meeting, the Mayor of Perm, Eduard Sosnin, presented a report on strategic planning in Perm. He spoke about the experience of preparing a major city for the 300th anniversary and the results of the jubilee events.
