The “Russian Mosaic” Festival Took Place in Perm and the “Music Quarter” Project Was Launched

The events took place in the city’s historical centre and allowed spectators to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Russian traditions.

Today, the historical centre of Perm became a venue for two cultural events dedicated to the Russian Language Day and the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. For the second year in a row, the “Russian Mosaic” Festival was held in the city centre, and the “Music Quarter” project was launched on Permskaya Street.

The “Russian Mosaic” Festival, which took place on the city esplanade, coincided with the celebration of the Russian Language Day, was dedicated to preserve and to promote Russia's cultural heritage. The event was organised by Perm City Administration and municipal cultural institution “PermConcert”.

Festival guests explored a handicraft fair, took part in workshops and watched fashion shows of collections in the traditional Russian folk style. The main stage featured a lineup of performers popular across the region and beyond, including ensembles “Voskreseniye”, “Ivan’y”, “Yarmarka”, Andrey Kiryakov with his project “Three Balalaikas”, Vladimir Oparin, an accordionist recognised as one of Russia’s Top Ten, the folk project “Grusha”, the choreographic ensemble “Solnechnaya Raduga”, children’s folk groups and many others. The headliner of the evening was a singer, poet and composer Lena Vasilyok, the author of lots of hits.

As part of the festival, a contest for the best outfit in the traditional Russian folk style was held. The winners received valuable prizes for their most authentic costumes.

At the same time, the “Music Quarter” project was launched on Permskaya Street. This is a part of the “Perm Time” programme which is dedicated to preserve and develop the city’s historical centre. The day’s theme was “Many-Faced Russia”, dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. For one day, the street became a pedestrian zone where musical performances ran from 15:00 to 21:00. The programme presented a full genre diversity – from ethnic melodies of the “Ba-ba-tu” ensemble and the Gypsy songs of the “Romen” ensemble to the contemporary ethno-electronic sound of DJ Lutsenko and the “International Atlas of Clouds” project. A handicraft fair and a workshop area were also available for guests. An interactive game programme from “Show Today” and a performance by illusionist Mikhail Kobyakov enhanced the festive atmosphere.
